Michelle is a pianist who is deafblind (both hearing & vision loss) and will be performing at Stage Fright on Saturday 25 February 2012.
Throughout her childhood, Michelle battled the challenges of a degenerative condition. This impairment led her to develop a strong passion for music and the piano soon began to play a major role in assisting her to come to terms with her vision loss. “Music is an important outlet for my frustrations” said Michelle.
After sometime she started to loose her hearing as well, making her unable to hear her own music. Imagine being a pianist who cannot see the keys to play nor hear the music produced, it is simply incredible.
Following years of practise Michelle went on the graduate from the Royal College for the Blind (UK) in Music & Piano Technology and in 2011 Michelle graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Arts.
Able Australia Deafblind Services currently supports Michelle to access various programs including music therapy, communication training and more.
